Research and Industrial Experience

  • Graduate Research Assistant

       May 2021 - Present

Porous Media and Multiphase Flow (PMMF) Laboratory, North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, USA.

Lab Head: Dr. Hooman Tafreshi     Lab Website: PMMF

  1. Developed a physics-based data-driven models (deep neural network models) for electrospinning to predict fiber diameter ofnanofibers in nonwoven, (Summer 2021 - Summer 2022).

  2. Enhanced the traditional quasi 1-D discrete element model for electrospinning by incorporating the effects of the 3-D electrostatic field that surrounds the fiber in fiber trajectory calculations which improves the accuracy of fiber diameter and fiber velocity calculations, (Summer 2022 - Fall 2023).

  3. Developed a a new modeling approach to simulate formation of polymeric fibers via the air-assisted electrospinning process,(Fall 2023 - Summer 2024).

  4. Designed and developed an air-assisted electrospinning extension for our existing electrospinning setup, utilizing SolidWorks for design and 3D printing for fabrication, (Spring 2024).

  5. Developing a Convolutional Neural Network model to forecast saturation profiles and total saturation across the fibrousmedia, (Summer 2024 - present).

  6. Performed experiments on generating Polyurethane and Polystyrene nanofibers through the Fluidnatek LE-50electrospinning unit, (Summer 2021 - Fall 2024).

  7. Characterized the experimental results using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high-speed camera, and analyzed thepolymer solution properties using the MCR 302 Rheometer, (Summer 2021 - Fall 2024).

  8. Mentored high school students with disabilities for Catalyst Summer Internship 2022, 2023, and 2024 to provide hands-onlab and research experience in STEM

  • Graduate Research Assistant

       January 2021 - May 2021

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, USA.

  • Graduate Research Assistant

       Aug 2017 - Aug 2019

CFDlab, Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, OK, USA.

Lab Head: Dr. Omer San     Lab Website: CFDlab

  1. Developed 2D and 3D Navier-Stokes and Euler solvers for direct numerical simulation (DNS) and large eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent flow problems using FORTRAN and Python programming languages.

  2. Performed research on different LES approaches, and developed novel optimized filtering kernel for LES to provide a better estimation of the inertial range turbulence dynamics than other standard turbulence models.

  3. Developed novel and improved proper orthogonal decomposition (POD)-Galerkin projection-based reduced-order models (ROMs) of geophysical flows using physics-based modeling techniques and data-driven (machine learning) tools.

  4. Performed parallelization of DNS/LES simulation codes using OpenMPI standard library and ran the simulations on high-performance computing cluster, visualized the results using various post-processing software, published our findings in renowned peer-reviewed journals and presented our research in international conferences and regional symposiums.

  • Undergraduate Trainee

       Feb 2016

       Avery Dennison, Dhaka, Bangladesh.

  1. Obtained training on manufacturing and production procedures, control panel duties, machine maintenance, and quality control of Avery Dennison’s apparel branding and label solutions industry.

  2. Participated in on-going projects related to productivity increment and generated weekly project report and presentation on machine setups and production processes

Volunteer Experience

  • Journal Reviewer for AIP Publishing (Journal: Physics of Fluids)

  • Mentored high school students with disabilities for Catalyst Summer Internship 2022 and 2023 at NCSU to provide hands-on lab and research experience in STEM.

  • Member of a free non-profit blood donation organization named "Badhon" during undergrad.
